It’s still there (I’ve just double checked!) You need to use the data management tool under ‘manage contacts’, as per the instructions above. Then you will then be given the option to delete permanently. I think they make it really hard because once they’re gone, they’re gone for good. And in the past they had issues with people accidentally deleting the wrong contacts. I know of someone who accidentally deleted their entire list of 15,000 subscribers and because she had used delete, there was nothing Mailchimp could do about it!

Do I have to delete these individually now? They make this impossible for a reason. So frustrating.

I was updating our mailing list and had clicked all over the shop trying to delete cleaned contacts. A quick google led me here and I sorted it within a couple of minutes. Love a good, clear explanation in laymen terms 🙂

Hmm – I guess that’s possible. Unfortunately, I don’t have a free account to check. Just a couple of things to double check on your end, though… firstly, have you selected any contacts, by putting a tick / check mark in the box next to their email address? The Permanently Delete option only appears after you have selected at least one contact. And the second thing to check is are you looking in the right place? The Permanently Delete option appears in the top right hand corner. Hope that helps. Eb 🙂

Maybe these steps are only available in the paid version of MailChimp and not the “free version? I don’t have this option to delete either, even after previewing the segment in Data Management

Mailchimp does a really poor job with their data management UI and their support articles are even worse. This short article told me how to do it in a few minutes.
